Abu Sama, a junior at Southeast Polk High, won the boys long jump with a third-round leap of 23-11 (7.28m) at the 112th Drake Relays Presented by Xtream and Powered by Mediacom and Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. Sama, the state record holder at 24-10 (7.56m), became the first male athlete to win the long jump title in meet history, just missing the 1984 meet record of 23-11.75 (7.30m) achieved by Chris Walker of Davenport Central.
